Nathan Helder is the Manager of Operational Technology at ALLETE, where he is part of a team that supports the operational and control networks across Minnesota Power and ALLETE's other subsidiaries. He grew up in the country town of Mantorville, MN, before heading north to attend the University of Minnesota - Duluth, where he received Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and Psychology. Nathan later attended the College of St. Scholastica, earning Master's degrees in Management and Business Administration. Nathan and his wife, Joanna, live in Duluth and have two children, Xaria and Torin.
Nathan was introduced to 23rd Veteran while participating in Leadership Duluth with Mile Waldron. After Mike gave a presentation to the class on the 23V Recon program and its goal of empowering veterans to lead more successful lives, Nathan felt compelled to join the cause. He helped plan Duluth's second Nearly Naked Ruck March and later joined 23rd Veteran's board of directors. Nathan believes strongly in the vision for 23rd Veteran and is honored to help contribute towards its continued success.
Dina Clabaugh, MS, MSW, LGSW
Board of Directors, Psychotherapist
Dina Clabaugh is a psychotherapist specializing in trauma-informed care and couples counseling. Dina is a trained EMDR therapist and also supports individual clients and groups through CBT, RCT, DBT, and mindfulness based stress reduction modalities. Prior to joining the community mental health field she was a career counselor and adjunct professor at The College of St. Scholastica. Dina is thrilled to be growing her own private practice throughout Northern Minnesota: Insight Counseling Duluth.
Dina was introduced to 23rd Veteran while collaborating with others in the community around trauma-informed care. Dina’s father served in the military and she has always found herself connected to veteran outreach opportunities, including the opening of the veteran’s center at St. Cloud State University several years ago. Dina is particularly inspired by the 23rd Veteran Recon’s philosophy of positive psychology, fitness, and community engagement. Genuine and healthy empowerment thrives in connection with self and community. Dina practices her own self-compassion and balance through long distance trail running, yoga, meditation, reading, dancing in the kitchen, and enjoying time with her husband, two cats and five chickens.

Katelyn Baumann is the Interim Coordinator and Specialist for Academic Service-Learning (AS-L) at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Katelyn develops partnerships with local organizations to formulate creative solutions to existing community needs. Katelyn obtained her Nonprofit Administration Certificate in 2014 and is a 2015 graduate of Leadership Superior-Douglas County from UW-Superior’s Center for Continuing Education. She completed her Bachelors of Arts in 2012 at UW-Superior majoring in International Peace Studies and Mass Communication.
Katelyn grew up with respect and gratitude for all service members. In addition to many extended family members, her maternal grandfather served in the Army during WWII and the Korean War, and her paternal grandfather also served in the Army during WWII. Katelyn is on the Board of Directors because she hopes to honor the patriotism, sacrifice, and courage of all women and men who have served this country and risked their lives to defend our freedoms. She is passionate about empowering and supporting veterans and their families. Katelyn is a staunch advocate for veteran assistance organizations and innovative programs like 23V Recon that can assist veterans with transitioning back into civilian lives.
Board of Directors, Human Resources & Bookkeeping
Hilary McCausland is the Director of Human Resources at Sisu Healthcare IT Solutions. She is responsible for all aspects of human resources such as benefits administration, recruiting, employee relations, compliance and compensation. She is originally from Duluth, MN but joined the US Navy in 2001 as an Operations Specialist. Hilary served during Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Second-Class Petty Officer.
After the Navy, Hilary earned her Master of Arts in Organizational Management with an HR Management emphasis and her Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. After entering the HR field, she earned her Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification and SHRM-SCP (Senior Certified Professional) certification. She is married with three boys.
Hilary first heard about 23rd Veteran during their annual Nearly Naked Ruck March. She participated in a team to raise money for the event. She became interested in the organization and believed in its mission. She later became part of the board of directors and is excited about this opportunity to help support veterans.
Board of Directors
Jared Krog is a Financial Advisor with Northwestern Mutual. He joined their team after 10 years of service as an Infantryman in The United States Army. During his tenure in the Army, Jared completed two deployments; one to Afghanistan in 2004 and one to Kosovo in 2007. Some of his military accomplishments include completing Airborne School, Army Mountain Warfare School, Air Assault School, Modern Army Combatives and US Army Ranger School. Jared completed a total of 12 years on active duty and with The Minnesota National Guard in June of 2014..
During his time as an intern, Jared was named the #1 intern in the nation due to his accomplishments and dedication to this business! After graduating from St. Cloud State University, Jared became a full-time Financial Advisor in February of 2014. He ranked 5th amongst his peers in the 2015 Mike Gisch competition. Jared has since qualified for Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards. Jared continues to be a leader within Northwestern Mutual as a College Unit Director and by doing the right things for his clients.
Jared lives in Minnetonka, MN and enjoys spending time with friends and family, being active outdoors, and working out!
